Mental Health in the LGBTQ+ community

LGBTQ+ people are more susceptible to mental health problems. LGBTQ+ youth are over 2 times more likely to feel suicidal and more than 4 times likely to attempt suicide than heterosexual people. LGBTQ+ people who live in stigmatizing neighborhoods are also more likely to have mental health or substance use problems.

Laws That Affect LGBTQ+ People

Some people believe that we already have equality because of recent laws such as marriage equality and the recent supreme court case ruling in against workplace discrimination. This is wrong because even same sex couples can be discrimated against when trying to adopt children in many states in the US. There are currently 27 states in which there are no explicit statewide laws that protect people from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity in employment, housing and public accommodations.
